VHS girls soccer heads to district playoffs with a winning record

The Vashon High School girls soccer team, currently ranked second in the Nisqually League, will enter district playoffs next week with a record of nine wins and three losses.

Most recently, they trampled Cascade Christian High school 11-0, Chimacum High School 10-0 and Orting High Schol 2-1.

Coach Paul Beytebiere said he was pleased to see the team end their regular season with a winning record and has high hopes for them at their first district playoff game on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Beytebiere said the girls have found their strength this season in working together and bonding as a team.

“It’s an excellent team. I’ve known most of the girls since junior high. … It’s a pretty close-knit team,” he said.

Beytebiere also said the 40-member team has several standout players that drive it forward. “Most teams have one person to watch out for. We have like four or five,” he said.

Senior Captain Carlyle Scott said the team’s success this season is especially impressive considering it lost 14 senior players who graduated last year, including eight starters.

“We lost a lot of our frontline. … We all thought it was going to be a rebuilding year. It’s nice how much the team has come together,” she said.

Though neither Beytebiere nor Scott could predict what playoffs have in store for the girls, they hope the players’ strong camaraderie will get them far.

“One of our team’s strengths has been working well together and being one unit instead of a bunch of individual talented players,” Scott said.
