The Vashon High School boys’ lacrosse club played defending state champion Issaquah on May 5. For Vashon, it was a different team but similar story to one that has played out through the entire season.

Vashon failed to control the ball at its offensive end. The defense played well enough but could not continue to stave off an efficient and unrelenting Issaquah offense.

Issaquah cruised to a 14-1 victory. Again, Vashon’s glimmers of hope came from its underclassmen, including Robert Easton, who hustled throughout the game and scored Vashon’s only goal.

Vashon traveled to Seattle Prep on May 7. Despite missing three starters, Vashon showed determination in this game from the opening face-off. Penalties kept Vashon from gaining much momentum in the first quarter. Seattle Prep took a 5-2 lead. With goals from Juniors Gregor Davidheiser and Hamzah Griffin, Vashon crept closer in the second quarter — with Prep leading 6-4 at half.

Prep came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring Vashon 4-0. Though Vashon rallied for three more goals in the fourth quarter, it was again too little too late. Prep got the victory 11-7.

Again, freshmen provided hopeful signs for this young team. Duncan Ende had two lightning quick goals, and Caz Mozeleski notched a gutsy and timely goal. Junior Gregor Davidheiser led scorers with two goals and an assist. Junior Carson Hembree led the defense with five ground balls.

Vashon finishes the season with two home games against Tahoma on Tuesday, May 11, and Stadium on Friday, May 14. Both games start at 7 p.m.
