The Vashon football team traveled to Port Townsend on Friday and came away with another loss 46-14.
Port Townsend received the opening kickoff and scored on the first play from scrimmage. The extra point was no good, bringing the score to 6-0.
After going three and out, the Pirates punted, and Port Townsend quickly scored again on a long run to lead 13-0
The Pirates returned the kickoff to the 30-yard line. Early in the drive, Pirate quarterback Nick Amundsen threw a pass to Evan Anderson, who took it 64 yards to the 4-yard line. Amundsen later took a keeper from the 1-yard line for a touchdown. The point after was no good, leaving Port Townsend leading 13-6.
Owen Brenno recovered a Port Townsend fumble on the 30-yard line on first play after the kickoff. The Pirates moved the ball, getting two first downs on Amundsen runs. The drive ended at the 8-yard line with a fumble. Port Townsend’s quarterback then rumbled for a 93-yard touchdown run to bring the score to 19-6.
After receiving a Pirate punt, Port Townsend started the second quarter with another score and a 26-6 lead. Then another Pirate punt led to a Port Townsend touchdown and a 33-6 score.
The Pirates were able to score again before halftime on a drive that featured two long pass plays to Garrett Starr and another catch by Anderson, capped by a touchdown run from Amundsen, bringing the score to 33-14.
In the third quarter, the Pirates were driving on offense with Amundsen getting four first downs on keepers, but the drive was stopped on fourth and three at the 6-yard line. Port Townsend got the ball and drove down for another score, stretching the Port Townsend’s lead to 40-14.
The Pirates had the ball two more times in the fourth quarter but were unable to score. Port Townsend scored again to end the scoring and win 46-14.
The Pirates will play at Charles Wright on Friday. Their next home game is Friday, Oct. 12, against Pemberton, B.C.
