Six of the nine Vashon High School boys’ wrestlers who competed in last weekend’s regional competition are moving on to the state tournament this weekend.
Juniors Luke Larson, Julian Fifield and Hunter Berger will be joined in the Tacoma Dome by sophomore standout and last year’s state champion Adrian St. Germain, sophomore Nico Nuxoll and freshman Moses Kilpatrick. The two-day state tournament will bring together the best wrestlers from 49 Washington high schools each competing to be the best in their weight class.
The six headed to Tacoma all finished in the top four in their weight classes at regionals with Larson and St. Germain coming in first. This will be Larson’s third trip to state and St. Germain’s second.
Sending six to State capped the Pirates’ fourth-place overall finish, a result head coach Anders Blomgren said he is excited about.
Last year, Vashon qualified a record 12 wrestlers. Two brought home state titles, and Vashon finished third overall.
Wrestling at the Tacoma Dome starts at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday. For more details and ticket information, visit wiaa.com/subcontent.aspx?SecID=332.
