A home game on March 27 brought Seattle Christian to Vashon.
Vashon plated three runs in the first inning, and three more in the second, including a home run by Finn Hawkins.
The game could have been in full control early but stayed closer than expected. Hawkins started for the Pirates, Will Frith relieved for two innings and Chase Bradrick closed in the seventh inning for a 9-4 win over the Warriors.
On March 29, the team bussed across the Hood Canal Bridge, for the second time this season, to face East Jefferson High School. The Pirates improved their “quick start approach” to the game, and put four runs up in the first and second innings, to cruise to a 11-1 “mercy rule” win in the fifth.
Charlie Walker pitched all five innings with eight strikeouts.
The two wins take the Pirates’ season record to 5-2, but the story of the week was the continued hot hitting from Maxwell Delgado-Williams.
Delgado-Williams had four hits in four at-bats on March 27, which combined with two of the three hits in his previous game put him at six hits in a row, going into the game on March 29. A single in the first inning took him to seven in a row — which is fantastic at any level of this sport.
“A huge shout out to Maxwell,” said Head Coach Simon Perrin. “He’s a testament to putting your head down and working hard after having a slow start. I’m also happy with how our substitutes, Craig Brat, Daniel Shannon, Hunter Stroble and RJ Miles, performed. Seattle Christian did look better this year, but we struggled to keep up our intensity. It’s nice to be able to nitpick a win, and see that our team cares about how we are playing, not just the win. We fixed that in the next game, against East Jefferson, and played in control: single, steal, score, repeat, mercy rule in the fifth inning. This season, we are in a better position to decide our own fate.”
