The Vashon boys basketball team took a big win on Saturday when it beat the Christian Faith School at home, 70-49.

The non-league game came at the end of a week that saw two other games canceled due to the snow. Vashon’s girls basketball team had its only game of the week, scheduled for Tuesday, canceled due to the weather.

On Saturday night senior Dan Lofland had nine points in the first quarter on the way to his best game of the year. He led the team in scoring with 23 points in the game.

Lofland also contributed with several steals and assists in the game, one to Ben Whitaker for two points in the first quarter; then on the next possession Whitaker fed Lofland an inbound pass for two points. The quarter ended with the Pirates ahead, 16-13.

The second quarter saw senior Dylan Basurto grab several of his team-leading 10 rebounds in the game and score two of his four points on the night.

Whitaker found some good looks and scored five points in the quarter. Ian Stewart, while not scoring any points that night, continued to bring intensity to the floor.

The team struggled a bit hitting foul shots, and Christian Faith put on the pressure despite several turnovers and answered each Pirate score. The second quarter ended with the Pirates still ahead, 28-26

After halftime the Pirates took over the third quarter, scoring 31 points with Jessie Norton hitting two three-point shots and Lofland hitting his second three-pointer on the night and scoring 10 points in the quarter.

Owen Brenno scored four points from offensive rebounds, ending the night with five rebounds and five points.

Senior Jesse Hazzard, playing with intensity, hit for two points and had two steals and one assist in the quarter. At the end of the third, the Pirates were far ahead, 59-34.

The final quarter saw Vashon hold its lead. Strong contributions from the bench continued as Garrett Starr and Peter Amick saw extended minutes in the game.

Torin Perret, Alex Vanderpool and CJ Williams all put in solid minutes in the fourth, with Williams scoring two points.

The Pirates played Life Christian on Tuesday after press deadline. Their next game is a league contest at home against Cascade Christian at 5 p.m. Friday. Next Tuesday they will play Orting at home.
