Pirates defeated in last home game

The Vashon football team played their last home game of the season Friday night against the Cedar Park Christian and lost to the Eagles, 40-6.

The Pirates received the opening kickoff and gained two first downs on the opening drive but were unable to convert on fourth down, and Cedar Park took over on downs, scoring on a long drive. The extra point try was no good, and the score was 6-0.

The Pirates’ only other possession in the first quarter ended with a punt.

Cedar Park scored again in the second quarter on a long run to lead 13-0.

Vashon returned the kickoff to the 45-yard line and sustained a drive that included three first downs on good blocking from the offensive line. The drive ended with a Nick Amundson pass to Garrett Starr for a touchdown. The two point attempt was no good, and the score was Cedar park 13, Vashon 6.

Cedar Park scored again in the second quarter to make it 20-6 at halftime.

Cedar Park ran the halftime kickoff back for a touchdown. The two point conversion was no good, bringing the score to 26-6.

While the Pirate defense was able to stop the bigger Eagles’ running game up the middle, they were unable to match their speed on the outside, and the Eagles scored again on a long run to take the score up to 33-6.

The Pirate offense was stopped in the fourth quarter with two possessions, ending in punts and one with an interception.

Cedar Park ended the scoring with a 40-yard touchdown run and a final score of 40-6.

The Nisqually league season ended with Cascade Christian and Charles Wright Academy tied with league records of 6 and 1, a tiebreaker making Cascade Christian league champions

Life Christian/Seattle Christian and Orting tied with 4-3 records, and a tiebreaker gives Orting third place.

Cedar Park Christian ended with a 4-2 record, putting them fourth place.

Vashon and Chimacum tied with 1-5 records. A tiebreaker gives Chimacum fifth place and Vashon sixth place.

Port Townsend, with an 0-6 record, took last place.

The Pirates play one more “crossover” game at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Friday Harbor.
