VHS Football celebrated senior night prior to the Friday, Oct. 13 game against Granite Falls.
This season’s class features 14 of the finest, most hardworking and inspiring young men. These seniors were an integral part of last season’s 6-3 record, the first winning season in 13 years. This senior class is to be commended for the adversity they have overcome the past few years.
Vashon (1-4) ultimately dropped a tough contest 52-7 against the visiting Granite Falls Tigers (5-1) during the Oct 13 game.
The Tigers scored the only points of the opening quarter on their first offensive play, a 66-yard touchdown pass at 11:35.
Both teams battled back and forth in the rain as the defenses held strong. Granite falls scored at 7:16 of the second quarter on a 16-yard touchdown, increasing the lead to 14-0. Vashon recovered the ensuing onside kick by the Tigers and started at their own 45 yard line. The Pirates put together a scoring drive capped off by a Teigin Monson four-yard rushing touchdown at the 2:51 mark, cutting the margin to 14-7 near halftime.
A few plays later, senior Peter Ghigleri suffered an injury on an attempted tackle. The care provided by athletic trainer Ryan Jeager was outstanding, and Ghigleri was not seriously injured.
Granite Falls took control of the game in the second half against the shorthanded Pirates, scoring 18 points in the third quarter and 20 points in the final quarter.
Congratulations to the VHS Football seniors: Chase Bradrick, Greg Chavez, Teigin Monson, Ricky Rassmussen, Daniel Shannon, Christian Kincade, Max Escame, Nathan Davidson, Peter Ghigleri, Rowan Millett, Sawyer Ranney, RJ Miles, Thomas Grose, Camden Monson.
