Three Vashon tennis players earned spots in the Tri-District tournament when Vashon hosted the Nisqually League tournament last Wednesday, where the top four singles and doubles teams advanced to districts.
If prior to last week Pirate folklore had not documented double rainbows and full moons having an effect on sports battles, now it has. To the delight of fans, last Tuesday’s girls soccer game had both of those visual treats, while down on the pitch the Pirates plundered their foe, the Cascade Christian Cougars, 5-1.
The Vashon volleyball team continued their winning ways last week. The Pirates celebrated an emotional senior night by crushing league rival Cascade Christian, 3-0, on Monday, Oct. 10, in front of a large and energized home crowd. It was a memorable way for the 10 seniors on the team to end their Vashon home play.
The Vashon Pirates played the Life Christian/Seattle Christian War Eagles on Saturday at Harry Lang Stadium in Lakewood, losing to the combined team, which was twice as large as the Pirates, 35-8.
Though the Pirates held the Chimacum Cowboys back for most of the first half of Friday’s Homecoming game, the night ended with a Chimacum win, 35-14.
After a tough loss to Seattle Christian, 7-2, on Tuesday, Oct. 4, the Vashon High School girls soccer team dominated the Charles Wright Academy side in an away game on Thursday, beating the Tarriers, 3-0.

The McMurray Middle School boys soccer team is undefeated after their latest game against Seattle Christian, an away game where the Mustangs played well and coasted to a 10-4 win.
Anyone waiting to catch an early evening ferry at Point Defiance last Thursday had the opportunity to see the start and finish of the Pirates’ cross country meet, where the girls team took a close second behind Seattle Christian. Vashon went up against both Seattle Christian and Life Christian at a double-loop course beginning in the open grass area just across the street in Point Defiance Park.
Competing against 15 regional rowing teams, the Vashon Island Rowing Club entered its first fall regatta at the Tail of the Lake head race at Lake Union on Sunday. Both master and junior rowers competed in a total of 19 races, bringing home five first-place metals, as well as three second-place and three third-place awards.
Last Saturday the Vashon High School cross country team held its eighth annual ferry dock to ferry dock run.
