Islander Clay Eastly has returned as coach of the Vashon High School football team, three years after stepping down.

Former coach Brynie Robinson resigned the position last month after a car crash left him with an injured knee and concussion.

Eastly has coached multiple island football teams, including club youth football, McMurray Middle School football and Vashon High School (VHS) football. He led the VHS Pirates to state playoffs in 2008, 2009 and 2010. He resigned in April 2013 and said he wanted to spend more time with his children.

Returning now, Eastly held a mini practice July 26 through 29 to get acquainted with players. He is looking forward to meeting the entire team when practices start up on Aug. 17.

The first home football game will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, against Cedar Park Christian.

VHS students interested in playing football should register in the school office between Aug. 15 and Aug. 17. Players need to pick up gear at 3 p.m. Aug. 17. Practices will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 17 through Aug. 19.
