An anonymous donor has stepped forward to create an incentive for lacrosse fans to give to the Vashon Fields Campaign.
The donor said that he or she would match any donation made in honor of Vashon’s lacrosse club up to $10,000.
Allison Shirk, the project’s grant writer, said the fundraising committee was thrilled at the donor’s commitment, meaning up to $20,000 more for the fields.
“We feel great about it” she said, “and we’re very hopeful other individuals in the community will make those other donations that will get us to their goal.”
The pledge comes as the first in a wave of major donations that are in process of being finalized by others sports clubs. Vashon Youth Baseball and Softball Club has just opened a brokerage account at Edward Jones to accept stocks donations on behalf of the Vashon Fields Capital Campaign. If able to get the community matches for those donations, the Vashon Park District expects to have $72,000 of the remaining $300,000 needed in place.
