Four runners from Vashon Running Club competed in the Watershed Preserve 12-Hour Run on Saturday, May 21, in Redmond.
At the event, more than 100 athletes ran to see how far they could go in 12 hours. Starting at 7 a.m. on a wooded loop trail, the athletes ran until they could run no more, with the winners finishing over 74 miles for the men and 67 miles for the women.
The Vashon runners all bested their expectations, with Kevin Kim-Murphy running 51.98 miles, Lisa Cyra running 46.59 miles, Kate Van Houdt running 44.44 miles and Claudine Kim-Murphy running 42.66 miles.
The event impressed the Island runners with their ability to tackle longer events as they plan for their next race, the Vashon Island Ultramarathon & Trail Run on Saturday, June 18.
