Vashon Pirate Youth Football’s lightweight team, Bud’s Bombers, met the Orting Animals on their home turf on Saturday, Nov. 8, for a classic battle for third place in the league. A rare November sun cast quickly moving shadows across the field, while Vashon shut out Orting for a 26-0 win.
A fantastic first-quarter touchdown run by Curtis St. Germain (#46) fired up the offense, further sparked by Azim St. Germain’s (#1) determined fumble recovery and Gabe Hayes’ (#25) strong running game.
Second quarter, Pirate Wyatt Yates (#10) stepped up the defense, turning a sterling interception into a 15-yard TD run, with Chester Pruett (#84) running in the extra point.
Adding to the Pirate’s hold, Clyde Pruett (#88) carried the ball an awe-inspiring 85 yards for a third-quarter touchdown number three.
Completing the bounty early fourth quarter, Pirate Logan Hawkins (#40), with superior extra effort, launched his body across the line for Pirate touchdown number four. Hayes then twisted himself into the endzone for the PAT.
Vashon Pirate Youth Football (VPYF) hosts Eatonville at Vashon High School on Saturday, Nov. 15, for the Sportsmanship Bowl, formerly known as the Ice Cream Bowl. These are VPYF’s only home games of the season.
Bud’s Bombers play Eatonville Cruisers’ lightweight team at 3:30 p.m.
