The annual Vashon Island Sportsmen’s Club Frank Matsumoto Salmon Derby took place last Sunday at Jensen Point.
First place and a $200 cash prize went to Robert McIntosh (pictured above) of Paradise Cove for his 14-pound, 4-ounce Chinook salmon. McIntosh’s brother, Richard McIntosh, took second place and $100 with a 13-pound, 4-ounce Chinook. Jessica Beall, granddaughter of Tom and Nancy Beall, won $50 and third place with her 9-pound Chinook.
The McIntosh brothers are not new to winning in Vashon’s oldest fishing derby, though their repeat win was a long time in coming. They each placed in the kid’s division of the competition more than 30 years ago. The elder brother Richard, who is 37, remembers winning with a dogfish.
