On Saturday the cross country teams sponsored the annual dock-to-dock race, where close to 25 people, children and adults alike, ran the length of the Island from the Tahlequah ferry dock, along the highway to the north end ferry dock.

More than a dozen adult runners showed up to support the cross country team as well as get some fun training miles under their belts as they undertook the 13.5-mile endeavor. Eight members of the cross country teams ran on Saturday, with four of the boys — Aidan Cyra, Colin Andrus, Graham Peet and Cole Devereau — running the entire distance.

More than $300 was raised for the cross country teams, and cooperating weather held the heat down to a perfect running temperature. A good time was had by all, and any interested runners are encouraged to sign up for next years dock-to-dock run.

Two days before the dock-to-dock event, Vashon High School’s boys and girls cross country teams raced their way to victory at Wildwood Park last Thursday. In a meet hosted by Seattle Christian High School, Vashon’s teams ran against both Seattle Christian and Cascade Christian athletes.

The first race was a 1.3-mile middle school race in which both Vashon middle school runners competed. Winning handily was Graham Peet, in just 7:26. Coming in close behind with a time of 8:06 was Nathan Williams. The next race was the combined girls race at a distance of 3.1 miles. Out the gate, Savannah Krug took the lead and never looked back. Ahead the entire race, she finished in front with a time of 22:32, taking her second overall win of the season. Next across the line was freshman Maddi Groen, taking second for the second time this season. Peri Roberts ran a strong race and finished fifth for the Pirate girls, with Victoria Scanlon rounding out the girls team that day.

In the last race of the day the boys ran smart, working together as a team and finishing first overall for their third Nisqually League win in a row. Tylor Heit sailed across the finish in 18:33, followed closely by Aidan Cyra in second place with a time of 18:40. Colin Andrus finished strongly in fourth place in 19:03. Jack Brenner and Cole Devereau came in within seconds to round out the boys team.
