I have not seen the movie “Lincoln” but was struck by the illogical slavery/abortion comparison made in last week’s paper (“Lincoln’ reminds us of the rights of the unborn,” Jan. 30).
If an abortion/slavery comparison is to be made, a woman who is forced to carry a pregnancy to term is more similar to a slave than the unborn fetus she is forced to carry. Essential to individual freedom is the right to make decisions about one’s own body. Slavery denied that right to African-Americans, and anti-abortion laws deny that right to women.
