Vashon-Maury Island is a uniquely beautiful place – an everyday oasis where residents have created strong communities and connections. Like your neighbors on the mainland, Vashon-Maury Island residents deserve the same care and attention in policies and programs that impact your communities and quality of life.
I’ve had the pleasure to better know and understand your shared priorities throughout my campaign for King County Council District 8. In many visits to the island, I’ve listened and learned what your needs are and how they can be better met. Through this relationship building, I’ve met so many incredible people and heard your stories, ideas, and concerns. I also want to share my deep thanks for your support through the primary election.
Over 63% of the island supported my candidacy and vision for King County. This means so much to me, and I’m continuing to work hard to earn your support. If elected I promise to be a leader who will find solutions, work with people across the region and across political divides, and who will care for our community’s most vulnerable.
There’s so much at stake in this race. What our county and region needs now more than ever are leaders who understand how to collaborate, coordinate, and care for people. The issues you all are facing on Vashon-Maury Island are not yours to bear alone. We know that the issues of affordability and safety, the climate crisis, transit and transportation challenges, and rising cost of living impacts us all: workers, business owners, retirees and families.
I have a proven track record of building broad coalitions, particularly around living-wage jobs and affordable housing, areas I will prioritize on King Councty Council. A strong partnership with King County is required to help address if organizations, like Vashon HouseHold, are going to have the impact our communities need.
On these issues and more, I look forward to serving you in this important role. I’m grateful for the endorsements of Vashon-Maury leaders such as former State Senator Sharon Nelson, the 34th Legislative District Democrats, King County Executive Dow Constantine, and so many more local and regional voices. I know that working together we can advance progressive, attainable solutions that work for all of our communities.
