Thomas H. Nedderman, a longtime resident of Vashon Island, died Jan. 24, 2004, at his home. He was 85 years old.
Mr. Nedderman was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Lovilia, Iowa. He grew up on the island and graduated from Vashon High School in 1936.
During World War II, he was in the army for five years, serving in Africa and Europe.
While stationed in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, he met and married Katherine Markham.
After the war, they moved to the island where he worked at the post office and raised three daughters. He retired as Vashon Postmaster in 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Kitty, daughters Carol Nedderman of Auburn, Sylvia Nishiyori of Bonney Lake, and Alice Wales of Bellingham, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
