Royal W. English was born in Elma, WA. He attended Highline High School and the University of Washington, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942-46.
After WWII Royal and Ruth (Phillips) wed, a marriage of 64 years, and enjoyed their family R. Wayne English Jr., Peggy English and Kathleen (Kitty) English.
Royal served as a Boy Scout Executive from 1952-87, in Seattle, Pasadena, Las Vegas, Germany, Turkey and Walnut Creek, CA. before retiring to start Royal Clockwork, an antique clock restoration business, in Walnut Creek. He retired in 1997 to build his dream home on beautiful Luana Beach on Vashon, WA.
Royal was a born teacher and tales of the Robinson Pt. Lighthouse and “icters”on the beach entertained the young and old. From digging clams and planking salmon for the fire, to designing and helping to build the award winning Lighthouse float for the Strawberry Festival he lived life to the fullest.
Royal will also be missed by his brother R. E. Hill of Los Gatos, CA, and numerous family and friends from around the world.
A memorial to Royal’s life will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit on Vashon Island, Saturday, February 20th.
Memorials may be shared with Seattle Boy Scouts of America, Seattle Camp Fire Girls, or Pt. Robinson Lighthouse Keepers Association.
