Roger L. Jensen
An Island boy has returned to Vashon for the last time. Roger L. Jensen died on February 16, 2011 at his brother’s home in West Seattle. He was 63 years old. Roger was born in Bellingham, Washington on November 17, 1947 and was the fourth child of Dallas and Elaine Jensen of Vashon Island.
Roger lived on Vashon Island for 24 years, attending Burton Grade School and he graduated from Vashon High School in 1966. He attended Olympic College in Bremerton for two years. He worked at Kimmel’s Shoprite in Vashon from his junior year and worked his way up to Assistant Manager. He left the Island in 1974 when he took a job with Tradewell Grocery Stores. He visited his parents on the Island many times since leaving the Island. Roger worked his way to Assistant Manager at Tradewell Grocery stores, ran a franchise grocery store with his partners, and then worked his way to store management at Bartell Drugs. He is survived by his brother, Dallas Jensen of Seattle, and two sisters, Sonya Miller of Fullerton, California and Patty Simonson of Beaverton, Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his family and friends. Roger left this world with his dignity and pride in a place where he was comfortable. He is now resting with his parents at the Vashon Cemetery.
