It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and friend, Robert Eugene Saathoff, 67, of Vashon Island, Washington. Bob was born to Robert Lee and Dixie Gayle Saathoff on April 9, 1957. Bob was one of five children, and when he was six years old, his siblings’ number increased by two when his father married Geraldine Brittsan.
Bob excelled in sports, including basketball, football, and cross country, and graduated from Granger High School in 1975. Bob’s determination led him to attend college for some time and later join the Job Corps, where he discovered his passion for plastering, embarking on a remarkable life long career in construction specializing in stucco and plaster.
Robert fell in love in 1984 to Julie McCormick and, a few years later, they started a family together having four beautiful children. In September 2002, Bob and his family made Vashon Island their home, where his children thrived and grew. Bob’s love for his family and community shone brightly through his work and hobbies. He cherished moments with his children, Isaac, Felicia, Austin, and Allison, and adored his four grandchildren, eagerly awaiting the arrival of his fifth grandchild. Robert will always be remembered for generosity and kindness to all.
Robert is survived by his children Robert Isaac Saathoff (Ashlea), Felicia Saathoff, James Austin Saathoff (Emma), Allison Saathoff, and their mother, his former wife, Julie McCormick-Saathoff. He is also survived by grandchildren Saavanah, Forde, Banks, and Poppy. As well as brothers Donald (Mary), R.D., Perry (Genia), sister Susan (Rick), and sister-in-law, Karla. Numerous nieces and nephews, other family, friends, and many who knew him fondly as “Uncle Bob.”
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 23, at 2:30 p.m. at the Camp Burton Lodge on Vashon Island, Washington. For those wishing to contribute to Robert Saathoff’s memorial service, please reach out via email at robertsaathoffmemorial@gmail.com.
