Robert “Bob” Edward Penning passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Monday, January 23, 2017, at his home in Bellevue. He was born May 31, 1924, in Spokane, Washington, to John Russell Penning and Mildred Evelyn Clark.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Pharmacist’s Mate on attack transport ships in the Pacific. On June 30, 1947, he married Alberta “Betty” Elizabeth Dart. Bob and Betty raised four wonderful children on Vashon Island, Washington, while Bob advanced his career in management at the Boeing Company. Following the death of Betty in 1986, Bob married Adele Young Woods on May 11, 1991. Adele later passed away in 2008.
He is survived by Bob and Adele’s combined children Mary Anne Soderberg of Woodinville, WA, John R. Penning of West Seattle, WA, William R. Penning of Bellevue, WA, Diane E. Webb of Kasilof, AK, Dr. Steven K. Woods of Hayden Lake, ID, Virginia A. Thomas of Woodland Hills, UT, Michael L. Woods of Hickory, NC, and Thomas B. Woods of Kaysville, UT. Also left behind are numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On Saturday, January 28th, his body was laid to rest at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue, Washington, after a graveside service provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
