Robert Mitchel Plancich, 85, died July 8, 2009 at Highline Hospital after an extended illness.
Robert was born at the family home on the property where Dockton Park is now. He was the 3rd of 11 children born to Lucas and Effie Plancich. The family then moved to piano row where Robert spent his childhood. Robert owned and operated his first commercial fishing boat at age 17 and continued to fish in the Puget Sound and in Alaska until his retirement at age 82.
Robert married Isabel Griffith in 1951 and they built their home on the Burton Peninsula where they raised four children. After the children were raised Robert and Isabel returned to Dockton where he resided until his death.
Robert and Isabel were two of the original members of the Vashon Island golf and Country Club and Robert was a volunteer firefighter for many years.
Robert is survived by his wife, of 58 years, Isabel. His children Stephen Plancich, Midge Robinson, Robby Plancich and Tracy (Scott) Bennedsen. His Grandchildren Osman Person, Corina Kline, Jeff Plancich, Ty Robinson, Jamie Spicer and Robert Bennedsen. Great grandchildren Johanna Bettick and Annie Plancich. Brothers Gordon (Pat), Mike (Bobbie), Allen (Bonnie), Russ and sisters Vivien fields,
Dee Dee Arnold and Ione (Ray) Johnson. Multiple Nieces and nephews and numerous friends. Robert was preceded in death by his Parents, Brothers Lucas, Dick, and Jerry.
The Family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Weispfenning and his crew for all the years of care they gave Robert.
A memorial service was held Tuesday July 21, 2009 at 11am at the Island funeral Service Chapel with a reception immediately following.
