Longtime Vashon resident Ray Downing died Nov. 2, 2013, surrounded by his wife Gisela, family and friends. He was born July 29, 1922.

Ray is remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors and close friends.

Family members say he was an amazing man with a heart of gold and that they are all better people for having known him.

They extend thanks to Providence Hospice and the Vashon Island community for helping the family in Ray’s last few days.

He will be interred at Vashon Island Cemetery at a private family service.
