Ragna Lorentzen was born on Dec. 2, 1915, at a home on Vashon Island. She died peacefully in her sleep at 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 4, 2008, at Wessley Nursing Home in Des Moines, Wash.
She lived on Vashon all of her life and attended school on Vashon as well. Lorentzen also met her late husband while growing up on the Island. She worked for a short time in the canneries and then decided to stay home to raise a family. She helped work on the family farm.
Lorentzen was an active member of the Sunshine Club, Rebecca Lodge and the Garden Club on Vashon. She enjoyed growing a garden full of different vegetables, loganberries and raspberries. She also enjoyed making homemade jam, canning some of the vegetables from the garden, sewing and teaching her granddaughters how to make Norwegian treats. She will be dearly missed by the people who got to know her and got to spend quality time with her.
Her husband Ingvald died in July of 1989, as did her two brothers Einar Huseby and Barney Huseby and sister Bertha Ness. Lorentzen is survived by her brother Tom Lorentzen and sister-in-law Bea Lorentzen, sister-in-law Kay Huseby of Seattle, her only child Carol Rojecki, son-in-law Richard Rojecki of Vashon, two grandchildren Michelle Rojecki and Krissy Rojecki and nieces and nephews Gary and Margie Johnson of Seattle and Leonard and Eleanor Ness of Mount Vernon. Lorentzen also had great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins around the Seattle area, and her close friends Inez and Greg Nickels of Vashon.
A private graveside service was held on Jan. 9, at the Vashon Cemetery and was conducted by the Lutheran minister Bjorn Meinhardt. Donations can be made to Vashon Island Fire & Rescue.
