Patricia Day Haley Ezzell

August 10, 1931- March 6, 2015

Patricia, 83, died peacefully Friday, March 6th, in the company of family and friends on Vashon Island.

Born in Hartford, CT to Mary and Sidney Haley, she and her elder sister Mary were raised in New York’s Hudson River Valley and then Winter Park, Florida. The young Miss Haley attended the Scarborough School, graduated from Kent Place School in Summit, NJ and graduated from Goucher College in Baltimore, MD in 1953 with a BFA in music. While attending Goucher she met Midshipman Leon J. Ezzell from the Naval Academy and the two were married upon her graduation.

Lee and Pat lived the nomadic life of a military family for many years, spending time in Coronado, CA and Corpus Christi, TX. Upon completing his service, they settled in Glastonbury, CT in 1962. A child was born in each of these homes: Lynnette, Christopher and Deirdre.

Lee and Pat were divorced in1968. Shortly thereafter she received a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Hartford and worked in various teaching, daycare and librarian roles before joining Aetna Life & Casualty in 1979.

In 1995, Patricia and her partner in crime, Springer Spaniel Chloe, moved from Glastonbury to Pleasant Hill and then Walnut Creek, CA. Finally, upon retirement in 2002, they migrated north to Vashon Island, WA.

Patricia was a devoted mother and a dedicated participant in local community organizations where ever she lived. Patricia’s love of horses and pride in her children was apparent in her active involvement in Glastonbury Pony Club, teaching unmounted classes as well as volunteering for the club’s local and regional events. She was always a generous volunteer, giving her time and abilities to many organizations including The Vashon Library, the YMCA, The Church of the Holy Spirit, The Glastonbury Historical Society and South Glastonbury Library.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit on Vashon Island, serving on its altar guild and had attended St. Augustine Church in South Glastonbury. Her interest in history and culture led her on many adventures. Whether it was taking an exploratory Sunday drive or joining a tour of Israel or Turkey, she was an avid and fearless traveler.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents Mary and Sidney and her sister Mary. She is survived by her three loving children: Lynnette Harmon of Concord, CA; Christopher Ezzell of Vashon Island, WA; and Deirdre Stables of Hayfield, Derbyshire, UK as well as her loving granddaughter Sara Rose Stables also of Hayfield. She also leaves behind beloved nieces Joanne Beuthel of Mercer Island, WA and Patricia Webster of Santa Cruz, CA.

She loved a laugh, a good book, gathering with friends, coffee, ice cream, English Springer Spaniels, and ABBA. She did not like cilantro. At all. She got things done.
