Myla Oswalt died June 8, 2013. Myla was born in Freeport, Illinois, in April 1929, to Walter Theodore and Lourena Eleanor Kostenbader Jacobs. She graduated from high school in Freeport, Illinois. She attended NW. Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she graduated as a clinical laboratory technician. Myla moved to Bellingham, WA, to work at St. Luke’s Hospital. While in Bellingham she met Clarence Oswalt. They were married January 28, 1954.
They moved to Vashon Island and raised three children. Myla worked for the school district in food service and as a bus driver. She enjoyed sewing, singing, gardening and reading. Myla was always an active member of a local church; and since moving to Mason County in 1993, she was a member of the First Baptist Church. One of Myla’s greatest strengths was her relationship with Jesus Christ, which helped her overcome many difficulties and sustained her throughout her life.
In addition to being preceded in death by her parents, Myla was preceded by her brother, Dr. Theodore C. Jacobs. She is survived by her husband, Clarence Oswalt; son, Walter Oswalt; and daughters, Clara Lewis and Hazel Coomes.
She was a kind and charitable woman, and devoted to her family and her church. She will be greatly missed by friends and family. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 428 W. Cota St., Shelton, WA, at 1:00pm, Friday, June 14th, with reception following.
