The lady with the beautiful smile, Mary Ann Roberts, passed away from cancer at the age of 75 on January 28, 2016. She was at her home and surrounded by family and friends at the time of her death. She is survived by her husband Jack, son Mike, son Mace and his wife Stacy, son Pat and his wife Tanya, grandson Riley, brother Michael Dedrick and his wife Mary Kay, and brother Tony and his wife Sandi.
Mary Ann was born on March 13, 1940 in Redwing, Minnesota, to Robert and Eve Dedrick. Soon afterwards, her family settled in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where Mary Ann spent her childhood. In 1961, Mary Ann attended Seattle University. There she met the love of her life, Jack Roberts. They married in 1962 and had three sons together.
In her married life, Mary Ann lived in Japan, San Francisco, and Vashon Island, where she resided for the past 38 years. While on Vashon, Mary Ann and her husband Jack established a flower business named, “Flowers from the Land,” in which they sold flowers at the local Saturday market. She was also a dedicated member of the Perennials Society.
Mary Ann loved plants and flowers and, whenever anyone would visit her at her home, it was guaranteed that she would send them home with a cutting of some sort, always paired with its proper name.
In addition to her passion for gardening, Mary Ann was a phenomenal cook, an opera lover, a wine enthusiast, a self-proclaimed horrible housekeeper, and most importantly ~ an avid reader to the very end. She was unconventional, independent, crazy intelligent, and a true bleeding heart. Mary Ann Roberts loved with her whole heart and will be so deeply missed.
“Go gently into the night, our love.”
A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
