Mark McCann died May 29, 2006, at age 55. He was born in Bristol, Conn. in October 1950 to Charles J., and Barbara McCann. The family moved to Ellensburg in 1961, where McCann excelled on the high school tennis team, and then the family moved to Olympia in 1968. He graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in history.
Mr. McCann lived on Vashon Island for more than 25 years. He played guitar and banjo in conjunction with a passion for bluegrass music. To a large degree, Mr. McCann’s primary interests lay outdoors in the bird and plant life of the natural world — he was a friend of the environment.
Survivors include sons from a former marriage, Christopher and Dylan; three sisters, Mary, Jane and Nancy; and two brothers, John and Peter.
