Madeleine Nelson-Sherry, long time Vashon resident, passed from this world on March 27, 2013 surrounded by her children.
Madeleine will be remembered for her years as a beautician on Vashon and involvement in community activities. She was born in Edmonds, Washington on February 13th, 1922 and spent most of her childhood years in Anchorage, Alaska. She returned to Seattle with her Mother, brother and sister at the age of 17. After graduating from Roosevelt High School she opened a dress shop. Later finishing beauty school, she opened a beauty shop with her Mother in the University District. Maddy later moved to Vashon where she opened a beauty shop of her own. It was there that she met the love of her life, Arne Nelson. They married and raised their family on a small farm near Burton. After losing Arne, she sold the family home and eventually moved to Factoria with her friend and new husband Bernard Sherry. When Bernie passed, she moved to Bothell where she was very active in the Northshore Senior Center. Maddy enjoyed the stock market, bridge, pinnacle, bingo, other card games, reading and taking her walks in the park.
Madeleine was proceeded in passing by her husband, Arne Peter Nelson, her son, Arne Paul Nelson and Bernard Sherry.
Madeleine is survived by daughters, Carol Simonson, Nancy Langdon and sons, Timothy Hayes, Steve Hayes, Jim Nelson and Stewart Nelson, along with 10 Grandchildren and 12 Great-Grandchildren.
She will be missed by her family and many friends.
