Leone Chesledon, an independent spirit who lived life on her own terms and a Vashon resident since 1994, passed Nov. 18 at the Vashon Community Care Center. She was 67 years young.
She was beloved by her family. In her final hours, her mother, her children and all six of her siblings were at her bedside. Diagnosed with Stage Four cancer three years ago, Leone fought hard against the disease, defying the odds by living as long as she did.
A creative person with a sharp eye, Leone loved the unusual and was a true eccentric. She was a regular at Granny’s Attic, finding quirky items with which she filled her eclectic waterfront home. She often wore overalls with diamond jewelry.
Leone was always her own boss. She worked her own real estate deals in Bellingham, Seattle and Vashon. She took off on a trip to Africa in her fifties. And when she came across an injured raccoon on a Vashon roadway, she stopped her car, put the animal in her trunk and took it to a veterinarian. She subscribed to the cause: “Keep Vashon Weird.”
The oldest child of the late Dr. Wayne and Clare Chesledon, Leone was born September 28, 1943 in New York City. She graduated from Holy Names Academy in Seattle and lived in Bellingham where she raised her two children.
Leone is survived by these two children, Troy Chesledon (his wife, Destiny), of Shelton, and Tracy Bahr (her husband, Kevin) of Bellingham, two grandchildren, Spencer and Sierra; her mother, Clare Chesledon, of Vashon; and her six siblings, Bryan (Mary Lou), of Seattle; Sharleen, of Seattle; Karen (John), of Vashon; David (Erin), of Clinton; Joe, of Chimacum; and Peter, of Vashon.
A memorial service is pending.
