Kim L. Beardsley von Hopffgarten
Kim died suddenly at the age of 54 on May 24, 2011. At the time she was living in Langley, BC on her Sanssouci Farm.
Kim was born in Seattle on October 4, 1956 and lived on Vashon until she went away to college and married. Kim graduated 1975 valedictorian of her class at Vashon High school. While in school she played in the band and on the girls’ basketball and tennis teams. Kim continued her education at Washington State University and graduated in 1980 with honors in her honors program and honors in her bachelor’s program in Mechanical engineering. She was a member in the Engineering Honors Program and of Alpha Phi Sorority.
Horses and dressage were a major part of Kim’s life. She was a life member of the US Pony Club with an H A rating. In 1981 she participated in the Insilco competition, which was the first East West head to head competition for dressage riders in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and took top honors at the Grand Prix level. In 1982 she represented the US on the US Equestrian Team in the World Cup Dressage Championships on her horse Woodimix in Lausanne, Switzerland. In 1983 she won the West Coast Regional Dressage Championship at the Grand Prix level in California.
In 1984 Kim married Dietrich von Hopffgarten, someone who shared her love for horses and her dressage instructor.
Kim is survived by her parents Jim and Marjorie Beardsley and her siblings Greg, Warren, and Melissa, her nephews Kevin, Chris and Brett Beardsley and many cousins and friends.
Her husband Dietrich preceded Kim in death in 2006.

Kim was a very talented, well-disciplined and beautiful person, rider and instructor that will be remembered and missed by many.
