Karl J. Risdal, formerly of Vashon, died of cancer Oct. 30 in Seattle. He was 57 years old.

Karl was born in Skudenes, Norway. He lived on Vashon for 15 years before moving to Seattle. True to his Norwegian heritage, Karl spent all of his life on or near the sea.

Karl is survived by his daughter Kaija of Seattle and son Kjell of Bend, Ore., and former wife Jinna of Vashon.

A memorial gathering for Karl will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 21, at the Blue Ridge Community Center, 10040 NW 15th Street, in Ballard.
