John W. Desrosiers

John W. Desrosiers died March 1, 2002. He was 68 years old.

Born in Fall River, Mass., in 1933, Mr. Desrosiers settled on Vashon with his wife Joan in 1983.

Prior to moving to Vashon, he was in the Army, worked as a long-haul truck driver on the East Coast and attended electronics school.

His first job on Vashon was at Burton Shell. He also worked at the nursing home and the Short Stop/Quick Stop.

In 1993, he became the full-time handyman, groundskeeper and night watchman at the Vashon Island Eagles. He completed flagger training in 1998 and worked for Potelco all over Western Washington.

Mr. Desrosiers was active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles on a local, district, state and national level. He completed all the chairs and was elected Worthy President of the Vashon Aerie in 1998. He also completed all the chairs on a district level. He was appointed Washington State Alzheimer’s Chairman in 1999 and Washington State Golden Eagle Chairman in 2000.

He loved to travel and visited 97 Aeries in Washington, as well as other Aeries on the West Coast.

His wife Joan died earlier.

Survivors include hundreds of Eagle brothers and sisters, who say they will miss him.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the Vashon Island Eagles.
