John Oliver died Jan. 21, 2004, at Vashon Community Care Center.
Mr. Oliver was born Oct. 6, 1918, to Margaret and John Oliver in Pembina, North Dakota.
He attended school there and in 1942 moved to Seattle to work in the shipyards.
In 1943, he married Lorraine Beaulieu. In 1946, they moved to Vashon.
Mr. Oliver worked for Asarco for 31 years. After retiring, he did odd jobs on Vashon. He was the past master of the Grange, and belonged to the Senior Center and was an avid square dancer.
His mother, father, sister Anna, brothers Ellis, Sigurd, Oddur, and Vilmar, all died earlier.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lorraine, his sisters Freda, Margaret and brother Theodore, and daughters Margaret Bickel, Joan Oindorff and Penny Chapman, and son John Oliver, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A service was on Sunday.
