John D. Whitecar, age 91, died on Aug. 31, 2005, at the Vashon Community Care Center. He was born on March 26, 1914, in Philadelphia, Penn., and was a Vashon resident for the last 20 years.
Mr. Whitecar enlisted in the United States Navy in 1931 and married Alberta Eglisdorf in 1938. They remained together for 55 years until her death on Vashon in 1993.
He received a medical discharge from the Navy in 1943 because of a back injury, and at the end of World War II, he and his family relocated to southern California, where he worked as an engineering technician at the Natural Parachute Test Center in El Centro until his retirement in 1976.
He and his wife later moved to Washington, building a home at Gold Beach on Maury Island in 1985.
He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite Masonic Order, and he and his wife were active members of the Vashon Senior Citizen Center.
He is survived by his two sons John Whitecar of Okanogan, Wash. and Devin Orion of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and by his three grandsons, Michael Whitecar, Stephen Whitecar and Andrew Whitecar.
