John Alvin Peppard
John was born June 23, 1918 in Hillsburo, OR to Jessie Aurelia and John Henry Peppard; He died on March 10, 2011, in Bothell WA.
John was a graduate of Gaston Union High School. He married Ruth Lee and had a son, John Leroy. John was widowed when his wife Ruth died of spinal meningitis. John joined the Army National Guard in September, 1939 and was mobilized to the regular US Army one year later. He was deployed to New Guinea where he spent his years during WWII. He was discharged on August 14, 1945. While serving he was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with bronze service star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star Medal for bravery while under fire. John married Frances Eleanor Roesner in 1948 and had two children, a daughter, Frances Jean, and a son, Wade Thomas. John was widowed again in 1995 when his second wife died. John worked 20 years as a machinist for Boeing in Seattle. He was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Vashon Presbyterian Church. He was a volunteer fire fighter at the Vashon Fire Department for many years. John enjoyed camping and fishing whenever he had an opportunity.
John is survived by his three children John Leroy Peppard, Frances Jean Peppard, and Wade Thomas Peppard. He has six grandsons, fifteen great grand children, and two great great grandchildren. Interment will be at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland OR, April 1st at 11:30 AM and memorial service for the family will be at 12:30 PM. The family requests instead of flowers that donations are sent in his name to The Heindsmann Scholarship Fund c/o Vashon Presbyterian Church PO Box 435, Vashon WA 98070.
