Jeremy Sappington was born on December 28, 1941, in Stella, Missouri. He grew up in Ulysses, Kansas, and taught public health at the University of Missouri and the University of Washington. He moved to Vashon Island 33 years ago.

He passed away on September 4, 2024, at his Vashon home after a two-year-long illness. Jeremy is survived by his wife of 30 years, Victoria Holt, and Zoey, the last in a long line of beloved Gordon Setter dogs.

A graveside service was held on September 14, 11:00 a.m. at the Vashon Island Cemetery. Consistent with his long-held environmental values, Jeremy’s will be a green burial.

Jeremy was always sharing his love of books and nature with his friends. He would be happy if you would read The Overstory in memory of him, or anything by Robinson Jeffers.
