Janis Wegener Kennett died on Nov. 2, 2005.
She was born in Seattle on Sept. 30, 1919.
She attended schools in Tacoma, and graduated from Stadium High School where she became interested in art and often painted murals for high school events.
Her father, Ralph Wegener, built a beach house at Burton on Vashon Island. She spent many years of her life on the Island in various homes with her husband, Herschel Kennett. He died earlier.
Mr. and Mrs. Kennett started a photography business, Holly Tree Studio, in Burton, which they later moved to Vashon.
She painted off and on throughout her life and many people are enjoying her paintings today.
When the two retired they spent many years in Manzanillo, Mexico, living there six months a year and returning to Vashon for the summers.
A highlight of her life was the retrospective show of her paintings at the Blue Heron Gallery on Vashon in 1999.
Survivors include her sister Ann Satterlee and husband Herb, brother Stiles Wegener and wife Ruth and six nephews, Herb, Ralph, Perry and Melinda Satterlee and Curtis and Veronica, Tom and Margie, Jon and Rosa Wegener and seven grand nephews, Joshua, Jacob, Stiles and Paige Satterlee, and Findley, Sunday and Sydney Wegener.
There will be a celebration of her life from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Vashon home of Perry Satterlee 24108 99th Ave. S. W.
