Jack Morrow

Beloved father, husband and long time Island resident Jack Morrow (87) passed away peacefully on June 20. Born July 14, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, Jack grew up driving a team of horses on the shores of Lake Michigan which allowed him to buy his first horse at 13 during the Depression. After high school, he followed his wanderlust of being a cowboy in Texas and worked on the JA Ranch. In 1946, he joined the Marines.

In 1948, he had the honor of driving a team of horses pulling a Prairie style chuck wagon in Chicago’s Centennial Day Parade which made photographed headlines in the Chicago Tribune that year.

After the marines he went into banking and became Vice President with the First National Bank of Chicago. In 1952, he met and married Joan Hach and they had three children, John William (deceased), Evan Clayton and Kathleen Jean. In 1966, he moved his family to Vashon Island where they built a home on Maury Island acreage. He was the president of the Vashon Island Saddle Club during in the 1970’s.

Jack is survived by his son, Evan Morrow, Vashon, daughter, Kathy Doubt, Kent, son-in-law, Ruxton Doubt, granddaughter, Alexandra and close companion Leona Beauchamp whom he moved to Laurelhurst to be nearer in 2013.

A memorial in his honor will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Vashon Island Funeral Home.
