Hans A. Adami, age 79, passed away at his home on Vashon Island on June
29th, 2004. His death followed a brief illness, which permitted close family
members the opportunity to gather together to share stories and say
goodbyes.
Hans was born January 12, 1925 in Vallendar, Germany, near Koblenz.
Following service in the Luftwaffe as an aircraft engine mechanic, he
completed engineering training and immigrated to North America. He met and
married his wife Peggie in Vancouver BC; they were married for 45 years,
spending 43 of them on Vashon. Hans earned his Professional Engineer license
in 1971, and his career as a mechanical engineer included jobs at Boeing,
Rocket Research, and The Robbins Company.
Hans will be recalled fondly in many ways. Outwardly gruff to some and
fiercely loyal to others, his idealism, patriotism, and charisma made him
consistently memorable to those who met him, even if that meeting was brief.
He had special fondness for people who, like himself, devoted their personal
energy to overcoming obstacles and creating achievements through hard work
and sacrifice. More than one Island youth found inspiration in his stories
and personality.
In addition to his wife Peggie, he leaves sons John (Bellevue) and Brian
(Richland), and daughter Heidi (O’Malley, Selah) and their families. No
memorial services are planned.
