Gary Carl McKinney

Beloved friend and longtime island resident Gary Carl McKinney, age 67, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, June 14, 2015.

He was born in Long Beach, California, on November 15, 1947, and served in the U.S. Air Force in Thailand.

He is survived by his two sisters, Bobbie and Becky, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews along with all his wonderful island friends.

Gary loved living on Vashon and talked often of his appreciation for being here. He enjoyed walking the many trails, jazz music and attending concerts. He also loved Saturday Market, First Fridays and frequenting the many fabulous island restaurants.

He always had a smile and kind word for everyone he met.

Gary was a talented woodworker, artist and musician. His terrific sense of humor, gentle nature and welcoming smile will long be remembered and greatly missed.

A memorial for Gary will be held on Sunday, July 26th at 3 pm, in the field with the gazebo in front of the Brown Agency at Vashon Village.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Gary’s name may be made to Vashon Youth and Family Services or the Vashon Food Bank.
