Florence Hammerstrand Swanson died Sunday, May 16, 2004, in her own home on Vashon Island. She was 95 years old.

She moved to Vashon from Milwaukee, Wis., in November of 1996 to live near her daughters.

Her late husband, Vernon A. Swanson, an attorney with the law firm Foley and Lardner, described her as “a gentle woman with a great sense of humor.”

Survivors include her two daughters, who were with her when she died, Mary Swanson of Vashon Island and Ann Swanson Vanderbilt of Ketchum, Idaho.
