Evelyn Pearl Duncan, 91, died Oct. 4, 2009, at the Vashon Community Care Center, where she had lived for two years.
Duncan was born May 14, 1918, on Bainbridge Island to John M. and Theresa (Anderson) Johnson. She spent her childhood on Bainbridge Island and graduated from high school there. She married the love of her life, Lewis E. Duncan, on March 28, 1942, in Tacoma. They moved to Vashon in 1962 with their only son, Steve Duncan.
Duncan was a loving and devoted stay-at-home wife and mother. She and her husband were active members of the Vashon Island Golf & Country Club, where they both enjoyed a round of golf and many friends. Lewis preceded her in death.
Duncan is survived by her son Steve Duncan of Port Orchard, her sister Rose Howlett of Portland, Ore., her brother Carl Johnson of Bainbridge Island, her two grandsons Robert Duncan of Port Orchard and David Duncan of Houston, Tex., two great-granddaughters Destiny and Taylor of Port Orchard and special friend and dedicated caregiver Bonnie Raume of Vashon, along with many friends and her Latter-Day Saints church family.
The family thanked Bonnie Raume, Dr. Kim Farrell, Vashon Island Fire & Rescue and the staff at the Vashon Community Care Center for taking care of Duncan.
At her request no services will be held. She will be placed next to her husband at the Vashon Cemetery. Donations in Duncan’s name can be made to Vashon Island Fire & Rescue at P.O. Box 1150, Vashon, WA, 98070.
