Peggy D. Eury was born April 20, 1941, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Nelly May Reynolds and Alvin D Eury. She died Feb. 16, at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle after a brief illness.
Eury graduated from Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, Calif., in 1959. She was an avid reader of science fiction and murder mysteries. Eury was a crafter, creating crocheted afghans and clothing, stuffed animals and toys. She made many objects out of recycled everyday objects and spent hours creating beaded objects with her niece, Stacy.
Eury worked at Wal-Mart in Elk City, Okla., for 15 years in various departments. She had previously worked at Fryes Plastics in Los Angeles, Calif., making glass grape cluster decorations that so many remember from the 1970’s.
She moved to Vashon Island in 2000 to be closer to remaining family in the Pacific Northwest.
Eury never married and had no children, save for five nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her aunt Edna Fay Brooks, her uncle John Vernon Reynolds and a younger sister, Donna Sue Eury.
Eury is survived by a sister Jerry Lee Keep and husband Don Keep of Poulsbo; their children, Tim Don of Poulsbo, Tamar Renee of Port Angeles and Kevin Don of Poulsbo; a brother-in-law, David Blaisdell (Donna Sue Eury) of Port Orchard, and their children, Stacy Blaisdell Datin (John) of Vashon and Michael Eury Blaisdell (Meri) of Port Orchard; aunts Vinita Wilson of Elk City, Okla., and Elva Harmon (Garvin) of Oklahoma City, Okla., along with a small army of cousins, all from Oklahoma.
She is also survived by close family friends Patricia Rogers, Angie (children Keegan and Dylan Jones) Hussman and Ben Hussman. Last but not least, she leaves behind her sweet little miniature poodle, Sami. Sami joins her cousins Stacy and John Datin as part of their family on Vashon Island.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Vashon Island Fire & Rescue for repeated help over the last eight years.
In Eury’s memory, relatives ask those who smoke to consider stopping. Remembrances can also be made to Swedish Medical Center, Vashon Island Fire & Rescue and Vashon Island Pet Protectors — or consider providing a Lifeline Unit to a person you know in need.
