Elizabeth Irene Scott Bucher died Dec. 25, 2004, at Vashon Community Care Center. She was 69 years old.
She was born Jan. 26, 1935, in Seattle, Wash., the youngest child of Amos William Scott and Elizabeth Mary Gardner.
Although she had a rough couple of years dealing with her multiple illnesses, she was a fighter right up to the end, her family says.
She lived most of her life in the Seattle area where she attended Garfield High School, graduating in 1953. She was a waitress at Flynn’s Diner on Airport Way when she met Robert L. Bucher. They were married and had six children. They moved to Yerington, Nev., where two of their children were born. They returned to the Seattle area where they were later divorced.
She was a graduate of SOIC Culinary Arts School.
One of her proudest moments was when she got her seamen’s card and was able to go to work on a ship in Alaska where she was a chef — or as she described it, “chief cook and bottle washer.”
She also worked for Boeing, Vashon Children’s Center, K2, and Washington State Ferries.
She was a Chinook Player at the Chinook Club House in Auburn. She also traveled around the country as an advocate for the mentally ill.
She worked at the Capitol Club House in Olympia until a stroke sent her into early retirement. She was a lover of children and held a great number of jobs as a nanny. She was truly a blessing to all who knew and loved her and she will be truly missed, her family says.
Survivors include her daughters Elizabeth and her husband Dennis Edmonds of Ft. Jones, Calif., Marie and her husband Dean Williamson of Puyallup; Kate and her husband Sam Bard of Vashon; son Charles Bucher of Seattle, and Jackie Bucher of Vader, Wash. She had 15 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren with another one due in March.
A memorial service was last Saturday.
Remembrances can be sent to the Church of the Holy Spirit or a favorite charity.
