Dorothy Topp

Dorothy Topp

Dorothy was born on September 25th, 1928 in Hector, Minnesota. She was a student at the University of Minnesota where she met another student Leroy Topp and married Leroy on September 10, 1949. Dorothy passed away on March 16, 2013 and is survived by her husband Roy, her son Dick and his wife Cherie, her daughter Patti and her husband Stan, her son Marc and his wife Becky, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in her death by her brother James Wedin of Pleasanton, California and her brother Paul Wedin of Glencoe, Minnesota.

Dorothy and her family moved to Vashon Island in 1962 and after her retirement in 1984 from Great Northwest Bank on Vashon, Dorothy loved to travel with her husband Roy and visited Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australia. She also loved cruising on a ship, visiting the Caribbean, Alaska, Thailand and the South Pacific. One of Dorothy’s favorite pastimes was fishing, usually caught more than everyone else and it was said that she could eat trout faster than the others could catch them. Dorothy also enjoyed keeping up on the local sports teams and followed the Seahawks, Husky and Cougar football teams and would attend most of her children’s, and then her grandchildren’s, sporting events. On her 50th wedding anniversary, she went horseback riding on the beach. With how active and busy as Dorothy was, she still made time to volunteer at the local thrift store.

Dorothy was a member of the Vashon Lutheran Church and was believed she was able to eat more lutefisk than anyone else. One of Dorothy’s most redeeming qualities was to be more concerned with everyone else’s needs before her own and wanted others to be happy. She never forgot a birthday, even though she had a very large family, including in-laws, grandchildren and great-grand children. Even though it was usually unintended, some of Dorothy’s actions would cause much laughter and memories for her family and friends. Dorothy set a high standard of hard work, wisdom and caring. She is and will be missed and her generosity will never be forgotten.

Our Lord took Dorothy on her terms, comfortably and quickly, and a Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday March 30th, 2013 at the Vashon Lutheran Church to celebrate her life. In her memory, please consider the Vashon Fire & Rescue EMS Fund PO Box 1150 Vashon, WA. 98070 or the American Cancer Society.
