Dorothy Elizabeth Hardy, age 90, died on April 29, 2005, on Vashon Island, Wash. She was born on Jan. 13, 1915, in Copperhill, Tenn., to Dr. and Mrs. Albert W. Lewis and was a loving sister to brothers Albert, Milton, George, and her dear sister Jonnie.
Dorothy began a long and successful career as an elementary school teacher in Jackson, Miss.
After she and Colby Keezer Hardy married in 1945, the couple settled in Guilford, Conn., where she taught second graders for many years. After she and Colby retired in 1975, health considerations led them to move to the Bonita Springs-Naples area in Fla., where they made many new friends.
She was widowed in 1998, lost her beloved sister in 2000, experienced declining health, and moved to Vashon in 2001 to be near her son and his wife.
Survivors include a son, Lewis Paige Hardy, and daughter-in-law Alma on Vashon Island, sister-in-law Ruth Stevens in Pennsylvania, nephews and nieces in Florida, California and the Seattle area, and many dear and longstanding friends in Florida, New England, Tennessee and Georgia
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the building fund of the First United Methodist Church, 27690 Shriver Avenue, Bonita Springs, Fla. 34135, which she and Colby attended for many years.
