Doris Briemo Carr

Doris Briemo Carr, formerly of Vashon Island, died April 5, 2006, at Evergreen Nursing Home in Hot Springs, Mont. She was 79 years old.

She was born Nov. 25, 1926, in Somers, Mont., to Harold and Lillian Alfreda (Bondenson) Briemo.

She attended school in Hot Springs and graduated in the Class of 1944.  She later attended Montana State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and thanks to her persistence, her husband-to-be Donald Carr graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

The two became lifetime alumni of MSU.

She married Donald L. Carr on Dec. 31, 1947.

They moved to Vashon Island and began to raise their children. They loved Vashon but could not get the love of Montana out of their hearts.

He retired from Boeing, and she retired from Water District 19 after many years of service.

The family lived for many years on Quartermaster Drive.

She was a lifetime member of OES Eastern Star on Vashon Island where she played piano for many years.

Mrs. Carr also loved to do crossword puzzles, listen to music and the radio (especially Paul Harvey). She loved to chat on the telephone and listen to the news on the television.

Throughout her life she loved to garden, shop at thrift stores and be a big part of her families’ lives.

After retirement she decided to move back to Hot Springs so that she could be closer to family and friends.

Her parents, her husband, a brother, Donald Briemo, and two of her four children all died earlier.

Survivors include her daughter, Marta Barbeau and spouse Adrian of Kauai, Hawaii; a son, D. Andrew and spouse Jennifer of Hot Springs; two granddaughters, Jennifer Quig of  Willington, Del., and Samantha Sue Carr of Hot Springs; and two grandsons, Cody Scott and Earl Cook, both of Hot Springs.

A memorial service will be later. Burial was in Lake View Cemetery in Polson, Mont.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bunch-Toews Funeral Chapels.
