In Remembrance of
Dora Mendoza Lavariega de Sohl
September 16, 1929 -June 2, 2023
Dear friends,
Dora passed on June 2, 2023, at the age of 93. She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
“Enjoy it while you can “was often uttered with encouragement and a sense of knowing. With a stellar work ethic, employed at K2 for over 16 years, she always kept her hands busy, and voice tuned up. Dora was always humming a tune from her favorite singer Pedro Infante or some Oaxacan ballad. If we listen close, we can probably hear her angelic song.
Native to Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, she experienced many changes and challenges with a new language in a new country. Her solid faith raised her up through them all.
Dora enjoyed picking up hitchhikers on the island and prayed that her children would always have a ride and travel safely. She completed several charity walks for AIDS, diabetes, and heart association. Dora traveled to the holy land with her catholic church group and went on a 20-mile backpack trip to Stehekin at age 70. Regularly walking 6 miles a day, 4 days a week up to her 80’s, all with her constant companion, Cleo, her chocolate lab.
We also proudly acknowledge her completion of a long-coveted diploma at North Seattle community college in her 60’s.
A longtime resident on Vashon Island, and married to Marshall Sohl, she raised 8 children and 10 grandchildren, and saw her first great grandchild. Plus loved and cared for countless dogs, cats, chickens, and a goat.
Her kind generous spirit remains alive in our hearts and thoughts as we go about our daily lives. To see her face in the next generation, carrying her unique beauty and regal charm onward.
Please join us for her remembrance celebration and share a poem, quote, or memory she has inspired. Refreshments served. We look forward to seeing you.
